Walk Around 7 x 7" , mixed media on paper.
Unlike us, the Greeks had a pedestrian society. Walking was not uncommon. When I found out the Greek word peripatero means “walk or tread all around “, the Chartres eleven-circuit Labyrinth came to mind. My resources said the one walking the quadrants was on a pilgrimage of searching , repentance or seeking the center.
I remembered the first time I walked a labyrinth alone. It was a discipline….I chose to enter and because it is unicursal, I had to stay in the path as it led and directed me to the center—the way in is the way out. At first it was uncomfortable and I wanted to rush to the center and out again. Then, as I forced myself to stay, I slowly relaxed, became intent on each step and suddenly found myself in the center without effort.
My path is different than yours, but it is a calling and I am to live it. The Message says, “I want you to get out there and walk—better yet run—on the road God called you to run.” 1 As I walk, I'm headed toward the center and am being transformed...letting go of worries, to do lists, past experiences and being aware of His presence, listening, repenting, seeking and caring. It's like walking with Jesus on his way toward Jerusalem.
As you have therefore received Christ, (even) Jesus the Lord, (so) walk (regulate your lives and conduct yourselves) in union with and conformity to Him. Colossians 2:6 1 ...Ephesians 4:11
