Absolutely 7 x 7" , mixed media on paper.
Sometimes I walk along my daily path looking for freedom but forgetting where to receive it. This piece is probably more harsh and stark than any I’ve done and it was emotionally difficult. To me, it is a startling reminder that Jesus came to oppose the world, bringing division and separation. The colors in this piece are intentionally black and white. This contrasts the grey culture I live in which says there are no absolutes, everything is acceptable, and I am free to do as I like.
The gold lightning strike represents God’s power and presence and Christ’s grace and mercy runs through it in the red thread. It’s so obvious here, but oftentimes invisible as I walk through life. I think I had to make the invisible visible in order to remind me there are absolutes and my choices matter. When I turn around and choose Christ, I receive an eternal mindset which releases all the freedoms from fear, things, anxiety, freedom to serve and freedom of knowing a Savior and eternal life. That choice brings reconciliation and the source of freedom, Christ Himself.
Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. Luke 12:51
